How can I Follow Etsy’s Sanction Policy?

Should I include the shipping details of my items?

Members are generally not allowed to ship items to or from sanctioned areas. Including accurate shipping details in a listing’s shipping profile helps Etsy protect the marketplace by following sanction program requirements.

Should I include the origin of my items?

Etsy does not allow the sale of items that originate from sanctioned countries and regions. Providing accurate information on the origin of your items helps prevent prohibited items from being listed on Etsy’s marketplace. 

Etsy reserves the right to request that sellers provide additional information about their listings, disclose an item's country of origin in a listing, or take other steps to meet compliance obligations. 

Why can't I list items that originate from a sanctioned country/region that are exempt?

Etsy’s Sanctions Policy outlines exempt items such as informational materials. These include publications, films, posters, phonograph records, photographs, tapes, compact disks, and certain artworks. 

However, Etsy has no means of verifying other exemptions on a case-by-case basis. Because Etsy is a third-party venue, it cannot authorize items or transactions as being specially exempt from a certain sanctions program.

My item was removed from the sanctioned country or region before sanctions were imposed. Why can't I list it?

Etsy prohibits the sale of items that originate from sanctioned countries and regions, regardless of the date they were removed from the sanctioned country or region. There are no exceptions made for items that predate the sanctions, since there are no means for Etsy to confirm when the items were actually removed from the sanctioned country/region. 

Why have my listings been removed but other shops appear to be selling similar items?

It is each seller's responsibility to make sure their shop and items are compliant with Etsy's policies. If you see a shop or listing that may not qualify, use Etsy’s reporting tool.
